I was sarcastic, if you didn't get it. INS/government always had monopoly over giving out of GCs(the constitution guarantees it for them). They never had competition about it. I forgot to post my update - I actually did get my appointment with Xvars.com (http://www.xvars.com) . They got me the appointment about 2 days after I signed up, and I got my stamping done in Toronto on Dec 16th. I also chose Montreal as backup but got my original choice. Good luck to people stamping visas in canada. it is much easier and faster than going back to the home country.

Do you know how much Xvars is charging for this process? I might try it out as well.

Yea. Thats true. I will think about it. It is possible to receive receipt in one week under normal circumstances. When I had applied for 140 (Regurlar Processing) in May before the fiasco I received receipt in 3 days.

I don't think that's possible. USCIS wants a physical address where you stay and will not deliver mail to PO box. In fact there is no forwarding of documents sent by USCIS too. They are all returned to USCIS.
This issue I think originates from the fact that USCIS wants to know where all aliens are physically staying.
I wanted to have a PO box to avoid any issues with mail theft and my lawyer said its not possible.
Anything different coming from your lawyer would be welcome.

Lawyer also has given whatever your lawyer said.
However, I know of few cases where people received green cards at their po boxes. If you call up custmer service, they will be happy to change the I-485 addresses to po box addresses.

I�m J1 visa holder and I�m planning on a vacation for Alaska cruise
during my grace period.

Here�s my trouble. I know J1 visa holder can�t go outside from USA during the grace period. But Alaska is also one of states of USA.
I also know that cruise visit to Victoria in Canada. But I will stay at my ship instead visiting Victoria. Is it ok to go legally? I mean �. can I go back to USA after Alaska cruise without any problems?

She can stay while an extension is pending, even after the I-94 expires, once the extension was filed before the expiration. There is no official name for this status, but it is allowed. By the way, she files the extension, not you.

My birth certificate does not have my name on it. (in india it is OK to name the new born a few weeks after birth.) so it just says "baby boy" on it:)

Do i need an affidavit from my parents mentioning my name?
Yes you need affidavits from your parents ,it is a common practise in India where the baby is named by the aunt in a naming ceremony

Almost a good percentage of IV members are ready to file their I-140/I-485. I was one of the fortunate ones who will be able to file I485, due to the date moving from 2001 to 2003 last month for Eb3. The moment I got this happy news that I can file I-485, I celebrated by contributing $20 to IV. And my request to all of you who are in good spirits as of today due to the dates being current for I140/485, please do the same. This will help IV to continue fighting for the removal of retrogression to the best extent. I am sure all of us agree with me, that there is a long way to go in the journey of this GC. So, please contribute.
